Last Sunday's 2003 Malta Marathon brought further success for multi-sport club Birkirkara St Joseph.
Placing second overall behind winner Abdelkebir Marchane, of Morocco, John Buhagiar ensured that, for the third year running, an athlete from Birkirkara SJ was the first Maltese to finish the race.
"In the near future, Buhagiar will intensify his preparations to break his own national record for the 42.195km race he established in London in 2000," a Birkirkara SJ statement said.
"His sights are also set on participation in the forthcoming Games of the Small States of Europe where Buhagiar will be trying to improve on the bronze medal he won in San Marino."
The statement added that the excellent results of triathletes Maria Mifsud Bonnici and Dermot Galea in the Sportivi Nazzjonali contest and the current good form of cyclists Jack Schiavone and Etienne Bonello will augur well for the future of the club as it strives for more success in 2003.
Mifsud Bonnici and Galea are in their final preparations for the start of the national triathlon championship which sets off on March 23.
