Foundation Day lunch

This year's Foundation Day lunch was an occasion worth remembering. For guests of honour Mrs Violet de Marco and Mrs Mary Fenech Adami, it was an occasion where they could share memories of the first years of NCW, since its foundation in 1964. Also with us were three of the founder members - Josephine Amato Gauci, Bice Testaferrata Moroni Viani and M. Jane Spiteri, MOM, and other past presidents Blanche Martin, MOM, MBE, Catherine Galea, MQR, B.Sc., (Eng), BA (Arch), A&CE; Lorraine Schembri Orland, BA, LL.D.; Dolores Cristina, BA (Hons), MP; Cecilia Xuereb, BA, LP, LRSM, Dip. Educ (Admin. & Mgmt), and Mercedes Schembri Wismayer, MD.

All these unique women led the Council during the 39 years of its existence, seeing it through difficult times yet not without memorable achievements that are milestones of the advancement of Maltese women.

President Grace Attard warmly acknowledged the work of these women and other past presidents who are no longer with us today - Vera Harding, Anna Sant Cassia, BA and Margaret Mortimer, MOM, MBE, BA. NCW will go on with its work, building on the work of the past but looking ahead and establishing itself nationally and internationally. This event has kicked off our 40th anniversary celebrations leading up to 2004.
