The figures for the last quarter of 2002 published by the National Statistics Office indicate that when compared to the same quarter last year, the total amount of accidents at work has decreased in the professional, technical and associate professional, service workers and shop and market sales workers, plant and machine operators and assemblers, craft and related trade workers categories.

However, an increase in accidents in elementary occupations occurred for both sexes; 68.5% of accidents at work experienced by women occur to those in elementary occupations, with the manufacturing sector being identified as that where women mostly experience accidents.
