Igino Xuereb, chief officer for retail banking at Bank of Valletta, recently met employees who won awards under the staff suggestion scheme for the first quarter of the current financial year.

"The increasingly high levels of participation in this scheme is showing that employees are involving themselves more actively in the bank's operations. More employees are today putting forward their ideas and solutions which, when implemented, facilitate the bank's operations and contribute towards providing a higher quality service to the customer," Mr Xuereb said.

Costantino Axisa of the Attard branch, who proposed an enhancement to the system used by the bank to make payments abroad by SWIFT, won the Best Suggestion Award. His suggestion facilitates the completion of the application form by the customer, the handling at branch level and at the bank's Operations Centre where such payments are processed.

Tania Camilleri from Palace Square branch, the winner of the Best Suggestor Award, had the highest percentage of accepted suggestions out of the total suggestions sent.

Mr Xuereb emphasised that the number of suggestions in this quarter has increased by 41 per cent over the same period last year. Suggestions are evaluated for innovation, processes, cost efficiency and quality.
