The Malta national team, under the charge of coach Mario Genovese, yesterday claimed the honours in a quadrangular table-tennis tournament, played at the University Sports Hall.
Malta won their opening match on Friday against Guernsey 3-1. Yesterday, they followed up that success with another two fine wins over German side Leipzig (4-1) and Isle of Man (4-1).
Edward Baldacchino maintained his fine form. He won three matches in all yesterday. Johanna Grech and Christine Cassar Torreggiani had the better of their Leipzig and Isle of Man opponents respectively while David Pace and Timothy Buttigieg chalked up other wins for Malta.
Guernsey beat Leipzig 3-2 yesterday afternoon to finish second ahead of the German team. Isle of Man had to settle for the bottom place with no points.
The singles competition will be played today, between 9.30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
