St James Hospital

St James Hospital, in Mgarr Road, Ghajnsielem, was described in "Gozo Newsletter" of February 2 as the first private hospital in Gozo currently providing private healthcare, with day surgery facilities which will be inaugurated next month.

Its directors, Drs Robert and Patricia Sciberras, explained that in fact, St James Hospital in Gozo is offering diagnostic services such as breast cancer screening, cardiac diagnostic tests and Ultrasound. These are being carried out in ground floor rooms specially equipped to provide such facilities.

Meanwhile, a theatre complex is being constructed on the first floor, in accordance with MEPA permits and Health Department regulations. This will consist of a local and general anaesthetic theatre, four recovery rooms, and a stretcher lift.

These facilities will cater for day surgeries - surgeries which can be performed in little time and from which the patient can be safely discharged a few hours later, without requiring an overnight stay. However, as the directors explained, Gozo's St James Hospital will not provide for surgery requiring overnight stays.
