Car of the Year 2003 launched

The new Renault Megane II has been voted "Car of the Year 2003" by a jury of 58 motoring journalists from 22 European countries, according to Mario Xuereb, general manager of Renault agents Kind's Auto Sales Ltd.

Speaking yesterday during the launch of the new car at the Trade Fair Grounds, in Naxxar, he said it was designed to offer optimum safety for all in each seat.

Based on a completely new platform, the Megane II has new front and rear suspension systems, combining precision with highly effective isolation of noise and vibration. It also has variable assist electric power steering.

The road performance of the Megane II is superior in terms of both roadholding and braking, he said.

The car is being offered in a three-door or five-door version with three engines, the 1.5 dci, 1.4 and 1.6 litre.

The starting price is Lm7,295.
