Labour party education spokesman Evarist Bartolo has said that Maltese students would still be able to benefit from the European Union's education programmes under the partnership option. This was given the lie by Günter Verheugen himself.
To add insult to injury, the party's education spokesman was then contradicted by his own leader who, when addressing student representatives at the party headquarters on February 1, said that the party would create a Lm1.5 million fund in order to help Maltese students studying abroad.
What made the Labour leader promise the launching of any such student fund, unless it was an awareness that due to Labour's partnership option Maltese students would be at a disadvantage?
