Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) has been contracted to perform C-checks of the Airbus fleet of Spanish airline Spanair.
LTM, a joint venture between Air Malta and Lufthansa Technik of Hamburg, started operating last month, performing C-checks on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.
A C-Check is an intense technical inspection that every aircraft needs to undergo after 15/18 months flying and is carried out over three days applying approximately 1,500 man hours.
"Since we first started working with Lufthansa Technik, back in the year 2000, they have always done a superb job," said Tirso Gonzalez, head of technical operations at Spanair.
"For us Lufthansa Technik Malta is an ideal partner as they offer high-quality workmanship and reliability," he said.
The Spanish airline, which is a member of Star Alliance, will be adding another six airplanes this year to its current fleet of 11 Airbus and will grow to between 33 and 45 jetliners over the next few years.
Since October 2000, Lufthansa Technik has been serving Spanair under one of its all-inclusive "worry-free" Total Technical Support TTSÆ contracts.
The Spanish carrier is Lufthansa Technik's second-largest customer after Lufthansa.
