The Central Bank of Malta has issued the second commemorative coin in the Distinguished Maltese Personalities series.

The coin commemorates Nicolò Isouard, the renowned Maltese composer who lived between 1775 and 1818.

The first coin in this series was issued in September 2001 to commemorate Prime Minister Enrico Mizzi.

The coat of arms of Malta and the year of issue are shown on the obverse of the new coin. The reverse shows a portrait of Isouard, the dates of his birth and death (1775 - 1818) and the words "Nicolò Isouard - Kompozitur" (Nicolo Isouard - Composer).

The silver proof coin is legal tender in Malta for the value of Lm5. The coin design is the work of artist Noel Galea Bason. The coin was struck at the Royal Mint, UK.

The coins are available for sale at Lm15 each from the Malta Coins Distribution Centre, Central Bank of Malta, Castille Place, Valletta, or via the currency section of the bank's website.
