What Margot Wallstrom, EU commissioner for the environment, was reported to have said about the cost to the 10 acceding countries to apply the EU environment laws must have come as a great shock to all those who have blindly believed what MIC and the government have been saying about "EU funds".
We have been led to believe that these will rid us of our environmental problems, particularly the Maghtab mountain!
The EU commissioner revealed that it would cost the acceding countries anything between e80 billion and e110 billion "to meet EU environmental norms".
She added that the 10 acceding countries would have to raise private capital or go to international financial institutions.
But the cherry on the cake were Ms Wallstrom's words: "Some EU cash will be available to help with investments, but the countries will have to find much of the money themselves."
How this is in the interest of our children and our children's children, only God knows!
