Billboards causing danger

MEPA is holding talks with the Malta Transport Authority over billboards placed on sites which could pose a danger to drivers, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said in parliament yesterday.

He explained that the setting up of commercial billboards needed authorisation by MEPA, which ensured they were not sited in areas which could pose a danger for drivers, such as roundabouts and crossroads. Other billboards, such as the political ones, did not require such authorisation by the authority.

Since some of these billboards were located in places which could pose a danger to drivers, MEPA was having talks with the transport authority for the problem to be resolved, the minister told Mr Joseph Cuschieri (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question.
