Air New Zealand has temporarily leased a Boeing aircraft from Air Malta to fill the shortfall in capacity after one of its planes had an engine failure last December.
The aircraft delivery to Auckland took 36 hours, arriving nearly three hours ahead of schedule and started to operate on behalf of Air New Zealand last Monday.
Cabin crew were trained by chief purser George Meli and the flight operations were in the hands of Air Malta's Boeing chief pilot Capt. Norman Damato and seven other pilots.
A spokesman for Air Malta said the operation was set up in under two weeks. The 737-300 will continue to fly with Air Malta livery on services between Auckland and Christchurch.
