AD wants to protect open spaces in Lija

The few open spaces left in Lija should be protected and the presence of Alternattiva Demokratika, the Green Party, in the Lija council would ensure that no more green areas and open spaces would be lost, AD spokesman James Camilleri said yesterday.

Presenting the party's manifesto for Lija, Mr Camilleri said that if elected he would do his utmost to ensure that the council put pressure on the authorities to control dust from the nearby factories.

He also commented on the need to open a police station in Lija to increase security.

"A big problem here is over-speeding vehicles which endanger the lives of residents especially in the village centre. The opening of a police station and police presence would increase security and the rule of law."

He also proposed better traffic management with the help of traffic lights installed at the main Lija roundabout.

Mr Camilleri said Villa Francia should be rehabilitated and made accessible to all residents for recreational purposes.
