The Socrates Office, with the collaboration of the KSU, is organising a special launch on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the common room, Students' House. This event is mainly focusing on the launch of mobility applications for study periods abroad during the academic year 2003/4.

Dubbed Erasmus Day, this event will launch a three-day information campaign on the opportunities available through the Socrates/Erasmus Programme. For the forthcoming year a further 320 places will be available for students in about 174 universities in Europe.

Over the past three years a large number of Maltese students have benefited from this programme, thus earning the "Erasmus Label" - a certificate that continues to gain prestige at a European and international level.

The Socrates programme is run by the European Commission and focuses specifically on formal Education. Erasmus (the Higher Education Section within Socrates) is certainly one of the most popular parts of the programme. Last October, activities were held in Brussels celebrating the one millionth Erasmus student.

All former beneficiaries of the Erasmus programme, students and academics at the University of Malta are encouraged to attend this event being held next Tuesday.
