I refer to the letter by V. Pace (January 25) and would like to confirm that there was indeed a request for the father's transfer to Zammit Clapp Hospital and that he was seen by a hospital doctor. However, he was discharged from St Luke's Hospital before he could be remitted to Zammit Clapp Hospital.
It is the practice at Zammit Clapp Hospital, that all patients referred to it are visited by one of our medical doctors and assessed in order to determine whether s/he would benefit from the specialised services offered by the hospital.
In view of the large number of requests in relation to the beds available, the hospital's policy is that the accepted patient is waitlisted and admitted on a first-in-first-out basis as beds become available.
