The Nationalist Party yesterday accused the Malta Labour Party of ridiculing the Catholic religion in a political spot being broadcast on its station.

In a statement strongly condemning the anti-EU membership spot, the PN said the MLP turns the letters of the word IVA (Yes) into VIA and adds the word CRUCIS, meaning the Way of the Cross.

"It is nothing but a caricature of one of the dearest symbols of the Maltese as Catholics," the PN said.

The spot not only showed a lack of respect towards religion, but also showed how weak the MLP's political arguments were.

The PN called on the MLP to remove the spot and apologise to the Maltese and Gozitans.
