In the past few months, hundreds of illegal immigrants have arrived in Malta, presenting us with a dilemma. Although we are aware that we do not have enough resources to support these immigrants indefinitely, we know that, as Christians, we should love and support these people as best as we can, just like our brothers and sisters.
So in these circumstances, can we possibly be indifferent to these people? How can youth organisations be on the forefront to put into practice Jesus's words when he told us: I was a foreigner and you welcomed me?
This theme is presented in the editorial of the January-March 2003 issue of mill-KDZ, a 32-page newsletter full of useful information and ideas for pastoral youth workers, published by the Diocesan Youth Commission (KDZ).
In his regular contribution to the newsletter, Fr Mark Ciantar, ofm, talks about positive experiences shared by the participants in the recently held youth meeting Agora dei Giovani del Mediterraneo in which three Maltese youth took part. Fr Mark explains that those who want to work with youth must live within their reality and have to learn to love like Jesus.
Elsewhere in this issue there are ideas on how to delegate effectively in a youth group context. In the music page, Adrian Scicluna comments on the song Together, sung by Patrick Wirth and Voices.
In this 64th edition of this newsletter, Fr Alfred Darmanin, sj, shares with readers other exercises intended to develop awareness skills in ourselves.
There are also details on a youth meeting on covetousness. Information on the Ghaqda Bibblika Maltija also features.
Nick Page presents a drama script and suggestions for a discussion on the theme of bending the rules. Simon Hall gives practical suggestions to pastoral workers on how to plan youth work by creating and putting into practice a vision for youth work in your organisation.
Last but not least, in the middle pages, there is the notice-board + e-net packed with events being organised for youth in the first three months of the year, together with details of the new competition open to all the readers of the newsletter and last edition's winner.
