Air Malta said it had yesterday received directives from the government to make arrangements to lay on special flights for Maltese voters overseas, but it had not made any previous preparations or held any meetings with any political party or entity on the subject.
The airline was reacting to the Labour Party's protest to the Electoral Commission over what it said were arrangements for the flights being made behind its back, so that Maltese abroad would be able to vote in the referendum and general election.
Air Malta said it would only now be taking the necessary steps to adhere to the government's directives and make the necessary preparations for these flights.
It has also informed the commission to make any investigations about the case if the commission deems it fit.
