Grand Harbour Marina yesterday signed a €1.5 million contract for the supply of pontoons with Troikka Marine of UK, jointly owned by Marinetek Finland Oy and Intermarine Ltd.

The contract was awarded following an international tender.

"Grand Harbour Marina has been designed as a world class marina in association with Camper & Nicholsons Marinas and will be the only marina in Malta to offer heavy duty concrete pontoons up to four metres wide which provide stable and safe moorings for the yacht owner," Walter Bonnici, deputy chairman of GHM said at the signing ceremony.

The pontoon system will be moored by the environmentally sensitive seaflex system, which minimises damage to the seabed and has been approved by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

When finished in July, the marina, part of the Cottonera project, will offer over 200 pontoon berths for boats up to 15 metres and stern-to berths up to 25 metres. In addition, 33 berths for superyachts from 30 to 100 metres are now also under construction. All berths will be fully serviced with power, water, telephone and cable television. Over 50 have already been reserved.
