The roof of a house in St Julian's caved in last night leaving the elderly woman who lives there in shock but unhurt.

Carmen Rizzo, 66, who lives in St Julian's Terrace in Balluta, was asleep in her bedroom when bricks from a wall under construction at an adjoining apartment block fell onto the roof of her sitting room, causing it to cave in, police on the scene said.

The incident happened at about 9.30 p.m.

Ian Mizzi, her relative, said his children often watched television in that very room, but happened not to be there on the night.

Mrs Rizzo was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
