Cat saved from painful death

A hungry cat had to be rescued after it got its head stuck in a can discarded in a field in Kalkara.

Luckily the story had a happy ending after the cat was discovered by a member of the SOS Animals (Malta) who immediately rushed it the vet to get the can removed.

"Since the poor cat was unable to see it could not seek shelter from the pouring rain and was soaking wet. The cat could have died a slow and painful death had it not been noticed," a spokesman for SOS Animals said.

"We thought the cat would go wild when the can was removed but it turned out that it was very playful and friendly," he said.

SOS Animals appealed to the public to discard such cans properly by first flattening them out and putting them in garbage bags and not dump them in fields.
