Appreciation - Beatrice (Betty) Cilia

by Ms Marie Borg Vassallo

I would like to, somehow, express in words my sorrow at the demise of my dearest friend Betty.

Betty and I met some 30 years ago. During all these years we built a lasting and true friendship. In the last 12 years we were also work colleagues at the University of Malta. It took me no time to note the profound respect and confidence she enjoyed in the eyes of all the staff and workers.

I noted her complete dedication to her work, her keen sense of duty, her willingness to share her knowledge and experience. That was Betty Cilia. Her life- long commitment was to the University of Malta where she worked for over 35 years, most of which she spent as administrative officer in the Finance Department, head of the Staff Recruitment and Development Office and lately as assistant director of Human Resources.

However, beyond the professional at work, there was more, much more. Betty was very kind to all, well-mannered, patient, honest, open, tolerant, a pleasure to be and work with and, most of all, so very humble, so sweet-natured.

This is Betty Cilia, the essence that lives on in the memories and hearts of her family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Farewell, Betty!
