In his reply (January 9) to my letter of December 17, Giov. Demartino, mayor of Mosta, said that he wrote in April 2000, to the enforcement officer in charge of the local wardens and also to the police. He also said I was unfair and untrue.
Since the, has any action been taken to avoid heavy vehicles passing through our streets?
The answer is no. Has he followed up his letters to see if action had been taken, in line with our continuous complains? I do not think so. In the meantime, we are still suffering damage to our vehicles and pollution in our homes. This is how untrue and unfair I was.
Our main concern, however, is the heavy traffic in our roads. As L. Borg rightly stated in his letter of January 2, these secondary roads, Cassar, Anglu Gatt, Spring and Oratory streets, are not built to take on this heavy volume.
As stated in my letter, the then Labour Party was going to remedy the situation because quite a number of residents and shop owners were suffering from the wrong decision taken by the predecessor of Mr Demartino when Eucharistic Congress Road was turned into a one-way street in the wrong direction.
Maybe it was true that this required a permit and consultation with the council. But at least they tried and they (Mr Demartino and his colleagues) did not let them.
Mr Demartino has asked me what I expect. I expect that after six years of complaints and hardship, the situation will be reversed as soon as possible.
