Warships motion before MLP conference

Labour deputy leader Joe Brincat said yesterday one of the motions to be discussed during the Labour Party's general conference next week will deal with the MLP's policy for a partnership with the EU which, Dr Brincat maintained, was the best choice for Malta.

The conference would meet on January 29, 30 and 31 and, if the need arose, would not close until February 2, he said.

Dr Brincat said the motions to be discussed at the conference were being moved by the national executive, branches and various party committees.

MLP general secretary Jimmy Magro said the motion by the Forum Zghazagh Laburisti dealt with youth participation in the political and democratic process and the creation of new opportunities for youngsters through the policy of partnership.

One of the motions calls for prudence when it comes to the issuing of permits for visits by military vessels in order to safeguard provisions in the constitution.
