Sea Malta 'strategically important'

The Labour Party's industry and public investment spokesman, John Attard Montalto said yesterday it was probable that Sea Malta would also be affected by the government's unbridled run for privatisation.

Dr Attard Montalto said that although the government was the majority shareholder, it was not taking the necessary time to consider how Sea Malta would be affected by certain decisions.

Dr Attard Montalto said Sea Malta had established itself as an efficient and trustworthy company and had strategic importance since it was essential for local industry.

Dr Attard Montalto said there were no guarantees that privatisation would make essential sea links more trustworthy or efficient.
