On January 4, I had the privilege of being at Palazzo De La Salle in Valletta, headquarters of the Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. In front of a select audience, President Guido de Marco, conferred on Judge Giovanni Bonello the gold medal awarded by the society.

It was one of those rare, historical evenings when four speeches, one each by the President, Judge Bonello, society president Paul Asciak and surgeon Mario Tabone Vassallo electrified all those present. It was a truly memorable evening that crowned the activities marking the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

I am truly grateful for having been present and long may the memory linger. We need more of this class and style of meeting.
