Valletta and Malta striker Daniel Bogdanovic will be leaving the island tomorrow on his way to Bulgaria for a short trial period for Varna club ChernoMore.
Bogdanovic was informed by his agent yesterday morning that ChernoMore, currently in sixth place in the Bulgarian Division One league, were seeking to strengthen the side during the winter break and interested in taking a closer look at him during next week's trial.
ChernoMore scouts have been monitoring Bogdanovic's progress for several weeks now. They saw him in action in a Premier League match against Marsaxlokk in October and also travelled to Cyprus and Mallorca to see him in action for the national team.
Before joining Valletta last summer, Bogdanovic, 22, had two other similar trials with Eastern European teams, first with Hungarians Vasas SC and then FC Kosice of Slovakia. With Vasas he also played a couple of league matches before his contract was terminated abruptly after the club met financial difficulties.
The Bulgarian league this season is dominated by CSKA who are top with 39 points. ChernoMore, with national team goalkeeper Zdravko Zdravkov in their ranks, are sixth with 21 points from 13 matches. The league resumes on February 22.
Varna is a seven-hour drive away from Sofia, the Bulgarian capital.
Earlier this month, Valletta had another player, Milen Penchev, travelling abroad for a trial.
However, the Bulgarian midfielder returned from Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta and will play for the Citizens until the end of the season.
