The question to be posed to the electorate in the referendum was "clear and unambiguous", the European Movement said yesterday.
"People have simply to express their will by a yes or no vote. It is evident that it is intended to give a clear picture to our political leaders as to where the electorate wishes to see Malta heading no matter who governs. This is an issue beyond partisan politics."
The movement also said it agreed with the message issued by the Maltese bishops which urged citizens to inform themselves.
"The European Movement (Malta) also fully concurs with the bishops' call to all those eligible to vote to do so in accordance with the dictates of their conscience and in the best interest of the highest common good.
"The European Movement has consistently supported the idea of a referendum to decide whether the Maltese people want to join the EU or not. In a democracy, a referendum has more than legal relevance because it reflects clearly what the people want on a particular issue."
