This weekend sees the start of the third and final round of the Kinnie League regular season as the top teams are now vying to obtain the best placing possible ahead of the play-offs semi-final series.
Leaders Fiat Luxol take on fourth-placed Siggiewi and tomorrow afternoon bottom-placed Stingers clash against Pembroke Tumas Group, currently in second place in front of Hamrun L. Go Mobile who are out of action this week.
Luxol will be looking to consolidate their two-point lead at the top and return to winning ways after they were bundled out of the BoV Cup semi-finals in midweek in a tense tie with Hamrun which dragged into extra-time.
Luxol's opponents Siggiewi are still smarting from their defeat in the Cup as well. They were beaten by Pembroke on Wednesday. Pivot John Doughty will be back after serving a two-match ban but Alan Borg is still not fully fit and doubtful for this match.
In their last league match Siggiewi played a blinder to beat Stingers and practically make sure of a top four position. Today they need more of the same stuff to sustain their climb up the table.
Pembroke should not be duly troubled by lowly Stingers who after winning their opening match in the championship, went on to suffer seven consecutive defeats and are now poised to play in the Promotion Pool to retain their Kinnie League status.
The women's league is also nearing a crucial phase. This weekend's programme sees the top four sides in action against each other.
Unbeaten leaders and champions Depiro Still take on second-placed Hibs Go Mobile while Luxol Vodafone and Naxxar Danone will contest the third place in another balanced match.
