An average of over 10 thefts from cars were reported every day in November and December, according to figures given in parliament.

Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said a total of 313 thefts from cars were reported in November and 334 in December. They represented, by far, the biggest category of theft cases reported to the police during those two months..

The other cases were classified as follows (November figures first): hold-ups: six, one; pick pocketing, 59, 91; snatch and grab, six, 21; theft from boats, six, eight; theft of cars, 57, 48; thefts from bars and hotels, 69, 87; thefts from factories, nine, seven; from residences, 49, 59; from shops, 41, 42; from beaches, one, three and "others" 237, 230.

The police solved 112 theft cases in November and 49 last month.
