I am trying to trace a former colleague of some 60 years ago. His name was Camilleri but I cannot remember a first name or a nickname.

In 1941-42 he was the cook at the RAF Marine Craft Base at St Paul's Bay - now known as Tal-Vecca - and did a really great job of cooking up meals from the meagre supplies that were available to us in those rather hectic days. He was what we knew as a "locally trained airman", and I think his rank or classification was leading aircraftman.

There are still a few ex-Malta veterans of the Royal Air Force marine craft and rescue launch crews who meet rarely but keep in touch by various means and when I was in touch with one of them, the name Camilleri cropped up and we both wondered whether or not he was still in the land of the living.

I know little of what happened to him after I left the island, in 1943, though I did hear that he joined the Malta Police and reached the rank of sergeant.

I am staying at the Bel Sol Hotel in Bugibba until February 5-6.
