A Guardamangia man yesterday filed a judicial protest in the Civil Court against the Nationalist Party general secretary and the principal electoral commissioner.

Anthony Attard claimed he had been served with an application filed by the PN in terms of which the court was requested to strike off his name from the electoral register on the grounds that he was disqualified due to mental incapacity.

Consequently, Attard had to be examined by the medical board at St Luke's Hospital and had also to appear in court to contest the PN's application.

Attard added that the allegation contained in the PN's application was totally unfounded, and was a conclusion based on the fact that he was 90 years old.

The PN's application was in violation of his human rights, claimed Attard, for he was being subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment as he had to submit to an examination by the medical board and attend a court sitting simply because he was an old man.

In conclusion, Attard declared that the PN's application could potentially deprive him of his vote, and he called on respondents to immediately withdraw the proceedings filed against him.

Dr José Herrera and Dr Edward Zammit Lewis signed the protest.
