Desert storm

I refer to the letter "The sins of the father" by Ray Bencini (January 3).

Mr Bencini blames George Bush, Sr, for not finishing Saddam Hussein 10 years ago and claims that "a golden opportunity was not taken".

Let me remind Mr Bencini that the object of Desert Storm 10 years ago, was to free Kuwait, which was invaded for no reason other than Iraqi greed in wanting control of Kuwait's oil fields.

From the beginning it was made clear, by the United States, at the United Nations and to the world that Kuwait's liberation was what that war was about.

The Arab world was right there behind the US, since they knew they could not get Saddam out on their own.

What this President wants to do is rid the free world of all the evil doers. Remember, Saddam, the dictator, is known to massacre his own people and for his support of terrorists all over the world.

Bin Laden, al-Qaeda and all the terrorist groups are the threat to world peace, but without heads of state supporting and harbouring them they will be less successful in killing innocent people. These terrorists do not need a reason like an attack on Iraq to act - hate of the free world, where people practise any religion they please, work, vote, educate themselves whether man, woman or child, are enough for them.
