Camp USA 2002: an experience of a lifetime

Camp USA: a rewarding experience

Camp USA: a rewarding experience

For the fifth consecutive year, NSTS Student and Youth Travel together with InterExchange, a non-profit organisation, is giving students and youth the opportunity to experience the American tradition of summer camp through the Camp USA programme.

Camp USA is an exciting and challenging programme, whereby international students and youth workers who enjoy travelling and have a genuine interest in working with children are placed at summer camps throughout the United States.

Each year more than 5.3 million American children attend one of the 8,500 summer camps in the US. The camp is a special place where the campers as well as the counsellors grow and learn about themselves and the world around them.

Every camp is different. The camps differ in facilities, philosophies, programme offerings, length of sessions, guidelines, policies and clientele. All camps expect their staff to ensure that the campers have fun and a safe summer. Just as every camp is unique, so are the international counsellors and support staff.

Camp USA's 2003 programme offers two positions within a summer camp: counsellor and support staff. Although the two roles are very different, each position is vital to the safe and effective running of a summer camp. Working in a summer camp is hard work and should not be considered a holiday. However, the camp experience is considered both fun and rewarding.

Those who are interested in getting to know more about Camp USA should e-mail: campUSA@nsts.org or call 2340-2371.
