Four men were yesterday charged with trying to burgle a shop and a showroom over two years ago.
Brothers Noel and Joseph Calleja, 23 and 24, of Sta Venera, Brian Agius, 24, and a 17-year-old boy, both from Siggiewi were charged with trying to burgle Netware in Mosta to the detriment of Carmel Caruana on November 25, 2000.
They were also charged with trying to steal from a Birkirkara showroom to the detriment of Western Agency Company Limited on the same day and causing over Lm50 damage at the showroom.
Agius and the teenager were also charged with stealing Lawrence Salerno's car from Siggiewi while Agius and Noel Calleja were charged with stealing Emanuel Caruana's car from San Gwann. Agius, Noel Calleja and the teenager were also charged with handling stolen property.
Agius and Joseph Calleja were also charged with relapsing while Agius alone was charged with committing a crime during the operative time of a suspended jail term.
They pleaded not guilty to all charges. The teenager's name is not being published because he is a minor.
Police Inspector Jeffrey Cilia prosecuted.
Dr Franco Debono appeared for Agius while Dr José Herrera appeared for the Callejas and the teenager.
