Pleads guilty to attacking police

A Libyan man living in Marsascala was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years for an altercation with police in Paceville on Sunday morning.

Mohammed Elbozidi, 28, pleaded guilty to attacking PS A. Kelly, PC Jason Farrugia, PC Christopher Falzon and PC Jonathan Farrugia and threatening them and PC N. Spiteri.

He was also charged with slightly injuring PC Falzon and PC Farrugia, damaging PC Farrugia's uniform, disobeying police and breaching the peace.

Elbozidi admitted committing a crime during the operative term of a previous suspended sentence but Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani-Grima chose not to order the execution of the jail term after taking into consideration all the circumstances of the case, including the fact that Elbozidi had paid for the damage.

Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for the defendant.
