Unbridled development

I refer to the article "Wied Ghomor" published in the Swieqi supplement of December 20. I would like to express the frustration of the young generation at the irresponsible actions of the authorities in relation to the environment. In this article praise is given for clearing up some land and putting benches to create a recreational area.

OK, well done. But please do not think that we can be easily blinded and forget the permanent harm being done to this valley. The authorities should care about allowing construction along the sides of the valley.

When driving across the Regional Road bridge, one can witness how buildings are engulfing the valley.

All those responsible should feel ashamed at the prospect that we have to pass this valley over to our children in such a state. We need to put a limit on how much land we are going to use for construction.

Perhaps we are not aware that land is a limited resource in Malta. I appeal to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and all the authorities concerned that after giving l-ghomor to this valley, to protect areas such as Wied id-Dis, and other locations in our islands, from suffering the same fate.
