No-one was injured when a thief fired a shot during a hold-up at St Paul's Bay on Friday. Around Lm1,500 were stolen in the hold-up.

The police said that the incident occurred when a 44-year-old man from Fgura was driving his car in Andrew Cunningham Street. At one point another car pulled over and forced the Fgura man to stop his car.

The police added that a hooded man brandishing a firearm went over to him and demanded he hand over a case which was in the car.

The police said that the thief fired a shot at the ground as he made his way to the other car, a Peugeot, which was driven off by an accomplice.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti has appointed a team of court experts to help in the inquiry.

The Qawra district police and the Criminal Investigation Department are investigating the case.
