The Kinnie League resumes after the christmas break with another two-match programme.

This afternoon, leaders Fiat Luxol take on Stingers while tomorrow Siggiewi face in-form Hamrun Liberty Go Mobile.

Having conceded their first league defeat against Hamrun, Luxol will be determined to begin the new year on a positive note by gaining a victory over bottom-placed Stingers.

Luxol coach John Tabone will certainly look to playmaker Dustin Falzon and forward Richard Schembri to live up to their billing after a couple of below-par performances in their last matches.

In their defeat to Hamrun Liberty, Luxol's shooting left much to be desired with Robert Azzopardi emerging as the only player who found some shooting range from the distance for the Kinnie League leaders.

On their day, Stingers can be a hard nut to crack for any team, especially when players such as forward Steve Schembri and playmaker Chris Sammut hit top form.

Stingers coach Felix Schembri's tactics will certainly be aimed at taming Luxol's two towers, Ivan Attard and Silvio Cassar.

Though Stingers have shown an improvement in their defending abilities, they have not been resilient enough to hit back when the going gets tough.

Hamrun Liberty Go Mobile, whose morale has benefited from their winning the last five matches, will try to repeat their first round success and leave opponents Siggiewi in difficult waters.

Since the return of pivot Albert Spiteri, Hamrun have not lost a match, in the process inflicting the first defeat on Luxol. Hamrun's coach Adrian Mifsud can rely on a good number of shooters who can prove instrumental in tight matches.

Ray Muscat, the Siggiewi coach, has been unable to arrest his team's slump in form after their remarkable victory in the Shield.

Pivot Jeffrey Gatt is playing below his standards while many of their players tend to try and go it alone in difficult moments, hardly being of any help to their team-mates.

Siggiewi's defence has lost its bite and it must have been very distressing for Muscat to see his rearguard easily beaten by their opponents.

In the Women's League, leaders Depiro Still should not be unduly stretched by Gozo. Second place in the table is at stake when Hibs Go Mobile face Luxol. Hamrun Tivoli take on bottom team Kerygma.

Kinnie League standings - Luxol 13; Pembroke 11; Hamrun 10; Siggiewi, Stingers 7 (Luxol and Pembroke played a game more).

Women's League standings - Depiro 14; Hibs, Luxol 12; Naxxar 11; Hamrun 7; Gozo 6; Kerygma 5.
