A Valletta man was yesterday charged with using violence to compel a woman to prostitution.

George Farrugia, 42, pleaded not guilty to compelling or inducing a woman to practise prostitution with abuse of authority, trust or domestic relations and living off the earnings of prostitution.

He was also charged with lodging a false report at the Valletta police station on December 28 at 12.30 p.m., slightly injuring Louise Bugeja and his daughter Portia Farrugia, causing less than Lm500 damage at Bugeja's house, breaching the peace, and uttering indecent words Farrugia was denied bail.

Police Inspector Paul Camilleri prosecuted.

Dr José Herrera and Dr Edward Zammit Lewis appeared for the defendant.
