During a commemorative Mass held on the second anniversary of the inauguration of the Millennium Chapel, the Augustinian community in Malta announced the setting up of the Millennium Chapel Foundation.

This foundation has been set up by legal deed which was duly signed on the occasion by the acting Provincial Fr Raymond Francalanza and the first chairman of the foundation, Dr John C. Grech in the presence of the founder of the Millennium Chapel, Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, Notary Clyde La Rosa and the Paceville community present in the church of the Mother of Good Counsel.

The members of the foundation also include Fr Tagliaferro as director, Fr Francalanza as assistant director, Anthony R. Curmi, secretary, Anthony C. Azzopardi, treasurer, Anne Grech, PRO, and Nanette Samuel, John Garroni, Frank Salt and Brian Muscat as members.

The foundation is to implement the aims for which the Millennium Chapel was built, namely:

¤ to build an oasis of peace in the heart of Paceville to all visitors of all creeds and religions;

¤ to be a place of perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for Christians;

¤ to offer care and understanding as well as counselling to people who seek it;

¤ to offer first aid to drug and alcohol abusers;

¤ to be a meeting place for senior citizens and local residents; and

¤ to welcome in the spirit of faith foreign visitors and tourists.

This is the first time that the Augustinian community has entrusted lay people to take responsibility for the direction and management of one of its projects.

On the same occasion Fr Tagliaferro blessed a sculpture themed on the individuals who seek refuge and assistance at the Millennium Chapel. The sculpture was made by Gianni Pace, who was present for the occasion.
