During the national championships, organised recently by the Malta Amateur Weightlifting Association, Noel Coleiro established a new record in the 85kg category. He amassed a total of 255kg - Snatch 115kg and Clean and Jerk 140kg. Coleiro could have broken his own Clean and Jerk mark with the last lift of 145kg. However, he narrowly missed the lift.
