A British man and woman were yesterday conditionally discharged for three years for stealing a laptop from a Pietà shop on Monday morning.

Darren Anthony Barnett, 30, and Jewel Cherie Nielsen, 19, pleaded guilty to stealing a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop worth more than Lm1,000 from Merlin Computer Centre.

Nielsen alone was also charged with breaching the conditions of a previous release.

Police Inspector Silvio Valletta prosecuted.

Dr Franco Debono appeared for the defendants.
