When Eucharistic Congress Road was turned into a one-way street, traffic entering the centre of Mosta took a different route by being made to pass through secondary roads like Cassar, Anglu Gatt, Spring and Oratory streets, rendering our streets a nightmare.

Buses, heavy vehicles including 18-wheelers and all other sorts of vehicles are now proceeding through these streets. Besides toxic fumes, we are also suffering damage to our parked vehicles by heavy vehicles.

Broken side mirrors and damage to the sides of our cars caused by heavy vehicles, which just scrape through, are the order of the day.

These heavy vehicles are forbidden from entering our streets and notwithstanding complaints to the mayor to occasionally send a warden to curb the abuse this has never materialised.

To add insult to injury, the then Labour government, having seen the problems created by our local council to us and to shop owners, wanted to remedy the situation by re-routing Eucharistic Congress Road in the opposite direction to what it is now. But alas, the local council physically protested at this by sitting in the middle of Mosta square.

The council remained ada-mant and the residents of these secondary roads are continuously complaining.

We therefore once again raise awareness about our nightmare, including the excessive speed and dangerous driving of vehicles proceeding from Independence Avenue into our streets.

Numerous accidents have occurred.
