Sta Venera local council has condemned recent vandalism at Romeo Romano garden and said it would be stepping up security there.

The council said vandals had struck twice in recent days, damaging benches, signs, plants and stonework. They also picked and stole oranges.

The council said that during the same period litter bins near the garden and in a playground were set on fire.

The police were called in to investigate.
