The mathematics courses offered at the Junior College are designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop positive attitudes and confidence in mathematics and its applications. The aim is for students may acquire a sound base of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for further studies in mathematics, other academic areas, and future careers.
They are encouraged to see mathematics as an effective means of communication. Moreover, the courses aim to help students develop an understanding of coherence and progression in mathematics and how different areas of mathematics can be connected.
Currently, the mathematics department offers Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Mechanics), both at Advanced and Intermediate levels. Pure Mathematics consists mainly of methods and problem-solving techniques covering basic areas of study that are of fundamental importance for university bound students, especially those taking science-related degrees.
On the other hand, Applied Mathematics (Mechanics), which is based on Newton's Laws of Motion, is the application of mathematics to the physical world.
