A Bugibba man was yesterday given a one-year jail term suspended for 18 months for causing damage inside a Chinese restaurant and slightly injuring a man.

Nicholas Farrugia, 43, pleaded guilty to causing Lm150 worth of damage to tables, chairs and other items at the China Fish House on April 13, 2000 at about 8 p.m.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace and swearing in public, hurling hard objects at Shuhua Zheng at the restaurant and threatening and assaulting and slightly injuring Shujun Zheng at the Qawra police station at about 10 p.m.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro noted that Farrugia had filed a guilty plea at an early stage and had reached an agreement with the restaurant owner to pay back the Lm150, which she ordered him to pay within six months.

The magistrate bound Farrugia not to bother the Zhengs for a year against a Lm100 fine in default.

Police Inspector David Galea prosecuted.

Dr Noel Bianco appeared for Farrugia.
