Mondial holidays have received the Malta Tourism Award for Best Outgoing Travel Agency at a gala presentation by Skål Malta.

Michael Abele, Mondial's general manager, received the trophy from Joe Borg Olivier, president of Skål Malta and the Federation of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agents.

The presentation was presided by Tourism Minister Michael Refalo, ushering in the first-ever Malta Tourism Awards in eight categories: Food and Beverage Suppliers; Media Promotion; Catering Outlets and Activities; Incoming and Outgoing Tourism Accommodation; and the tourism and travel personality of the year.

Mr Borg Olivier said the aim of the awards was to encourage professionalism in the industry, and to encourage honest behaviour between the people working together in the industry for the common goal of success.

He also read out a message sent by Skål International president Tony Glegg Butt, who was unable to attend the ceremony.

Skål Malta is an organisation that brings together all sectors of the travel industry and recognises professionalism and operators who contribute to the success and enhancement of the industry. Mondial Holidays was established in 1947 and today forms part of the Mondial Group, which operates six travel offices. Each year it serves 16,000 business and leisure customers.

Total annual travel agency sales amount to Lm3.5 million and the group has had an average annual growth of 10 per cent in the past five years.
