Le Meridien to operate hotel in Balluta Bay

Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts has signed an agreement with Bajja Investments Ltd to manage and operate a new five-star hotel in Balluta Bay, St Julian's.

Already two years under construction, the 275 bedroom Le Meridien Saint Julian's is due to open in 2004.

The hotel is situated on the waterfront of Balluta Bay, in the grounds of Villa Cassar Torregiani.

The general manager of Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts in Malta, Ben Sington, said the late 1800's villa would be completely refurbished, serving as the entrance and showpiece restaurant of the hotel with outdoor terracing overlooking the bay.

All bedrooms will have sea views or country views of the valley behind.

Le Meridien St Julian's will also have a conference centre. Other facilities will include a main hotel restaurant and bar; the villa operation which will incorporate a variety of gourmet experiences, including fine dining, brasserie, gelateria and cafe; shops; children's area and two floors of underground parking for 170 cars.
